The Start of a Candle Blog

I love candles! Especially scented ones. I have been looking for really good candle reviews online for quite some time, and I have a found only one, really, and it's really good. The site is www.candlefind.com. But that site, although it is good, does not review the brands of candles I like. So I decided to create my own via this blog.

When it comes to scented candles, I buy them so --hello-- I can SMELL them! There is nothing that bothers me more than buying a candle, bringing it home, and not being able to smell it. So when I buy a candle, I really want it knock my socks off when I walk in the room after it's been lit.

Another thing I look for in a candle is an authentic smell. If the scent is described as pineapple and orange, I don't want to light it and have it come up as cherries. What a bummer! I like lots of different kinds of scents, but my favorite are the more complex, spa-type scents that are somewhat layered. I like bakery scents, but they are not my favorite.

I also look for how a candle burns. I like a candle that has a clean burn and doesn't tunnel. Tunneling candles really annoy me. However, if the scent throw and the authenticity are good, then neither a dirty burn nor tunneling is a deal breaker for me. I will say, though, that usually the candles who make high enough quality candles to have good throw and authentic scent also have a clean burn and no tunneling if burning instructions are followed.

Anyway, I am systematically working my way through every scent offered by both Tyler and Circle E candles. These two are my favorite brands so far because of the qualities mentioned above. I do have a problem with circle E, though, regarding the authenticity of some of their scents, which I will go into in more detail when I review their candles.

Other brands that I LOVE are Archipelago (of course), Votivo, Seda France, and the new Luxe brand by Target. I am also getting turned on to the Spotted Hog Candle Company based in New York, but I have to give their candles a little longer before I come up with an opinion on them.

So that's my story -- I hope if you are reading this that you will find my upcoming candle reviews helpful. And I'd love to hear from you about your favorites too!
